This one-ingredient croffles recipe is perfect for on-the-go breakfasts or snacks! What is a croffle? It’s the perfect marriage between a croissant and a waffle – a croissant waffle! Check out how to make easy croffles in just minutes!

We first discovered croffles, or croissant waffles, in South Korea during a recent family vacation. Our eyes became huge with delight as we bit into this Korean adaptation of two not-so-Korean pastries. After that first experience, we couldn’t stop! We had croffles all over Seoul – in small cafes and in fancy buffets. I don’t think we could ever go back to regular old waffles…

…Which meant that once we came back to the US, we had to have more croffles! Thus began our trial and error journey to find the perfect dough for our easy croissant waffle recipe.
What Is A Croffle?

A croffle is a waffle made of croissant dough. So, croissant + waffle = croffle! Unlike the usual waffle, which has a dense texture, croissant waffles have a flakey, airy texture due to the croissant dough. Basically, you’re eating a croissant cooked into a waffle shape.
This is a family favorite recipe and there’s really nothing to it!
Best Premade Croissant Dough for Croffles
Remember, this is an EASY croffles recipe, not an elaborate one. So, naturally, we were on the hunt for the perfect premade croissant dough that would give us the same airiness of the delicious croffles of South Korea.
Bottom line is that not all croissant doughs produce a yummy croissant waffle. Here are the different croissant doughs we tried and our verdict!

Pillsbury Crescents: You get to roll your own croissants with this classic dough so there’s a bit of extra effort required. Also, the dough was not airy enough, so the croffles came out super dense. Do not use for croissant waffles.
Trader Joe’s Mini Croissants: These are found in the frozen foods section. The small size made mini snack-sized croffles, but they too, were not flakey enough. Do not use for this croffles recipe.

Whole Foods Market frozen croissant doughs: These come in a clear plastic package in a couple of sizes. The Whole Foods brand dough was super flakey and buttery so gave us the perfect croissant waffle overall – closest to what we tasted in Korea! These were the Umamiologist’s favorite, hands down. Only downside is that it’s on the pricier side compared to the others.
Au Pain Doré frozen croissant doughs from Costco: Best for its price and taste! These were the most buttery doughs we found, which meant that the croffles were both flakey and buttery. These are Mr. Umamiology’s favorites because of how buttery they are. Downside, however, is that you have to buy in bulk and it’s only sold in Costco Business Centers (not the regular Costco).

Key Elements Of This Recipe
- Perfect Croissant Dough: We recommend the frozen croissant dough from either Whole Foods Market or Au Pain Doré available at Costco Business Centers.
- Waffle Maker: You definitely cannot make croffles without a waffle maker. They aren’t super expensive, so it would be a great investment – we pull ours out pretty much every week!
