In our house, popcorn is always our go-to snack. In fact, we serve more popcorn than most movie theaters! (Our opinion, of course.)

And one of our favorite flavors of popcorn is Dill Pickle Popcorn.

It’s got a fresh herbal essence from the dried dill weed, plenty of umami from the mustard powder and garlic salt – and a slight vinegary tang from the pickle juice infused butter. Try this recipe once, and you’ll never regret it.

What Is Dill Weed?

The star of our show today is dried dill weed – an aromatic herb commonly used in cooking. It has delicate, feathery leaves and is often added to dishes for its slightly tangy, sweet flavor with hints of anise and lemon.

It pairs well with various foods, including fish, seafood, eggs, potatoes, salads, sauces, and pickles. Additionally, dill weed is used to flavor sauces, vinegars and dips.

How To Make Dill Pickle Popcorn

This easy to make popcorn is done stovetop and finished by a toss of melted butter and dill seasoning. The best part is that it is done in just under 6 minutes!

Combine Your Dry Seasoning

In a small bowl, mix your dried dill weed, garlic salt, onion powder, mustard powder and give it a good mix. Set aside until your popcorn is ready.

Prepare Your Melted Butter

In a separate microwave-safe bowl, place your softened butter, and heat it in the microwave, uncovered, for 18 seconds or less. Your butter should be mostly melted, but if you still have a few small pieces left, just give it a good mix and it should melt from the residual heat of the bowl.

To that melted butter, add in your pickle juice and give it a good stir. Set aside.

Make Stovetop Popcorn

In a medium size pot, pour in about 2 cups of popping corn and add just enough avocado oil to coat each kernel of corn. (Should be about 3 tablespoons of oil.)

Then turn your stove on medium heat and cover the pot.

Wait until you hear the corn popping and promptly remove when the popping of the kernels slows to 1 pop every 3 seconds.

Pro Tip: When the kernels in the pot reach critical heat, the popping of the corn should be rapid. Once it slows to about 1 pop every 3 seconds, you’ll know you are done. Remove from heat immediately at this point, to avoid burning your already popped corn.

Putting It All Together

Place your freshly popped corn in a large mixing bowl and spread 1/3 of your melted butter evenly onto your popcorn. Then sprinkle 1/3 of your dry dill pickle seasoning mix evenly over the popcorn and give everything a good toss.
